Kolkata - The City 'At The Edge Of Forever'

"We are in the thick of the sprawling city of Calcutta, and I am one of around ten million people living in this city. This is a city which is loved and hated.Kipling called it 'the city of dreadful night'.Lord Clive, the founder of British India, called it 'the most wicked place in the universe'.Nehru called it 'the city of processions, of political manifestations',and Guenther Grass called it 'God's excrement';and you, Reinhard Hauff, you have probably survived the first shock and have started liking Calcutta."

- Filmmaker Mrinal Sen in conversation with his German collegue Reinard Hauff in the latter's film
"10 Days in Calcutta" (1987).

West Bengal is one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse states of India. It can be considered as the gateway to the exotic East. Different ethnicities, languages and cultures add to the rich beauty of West Bengal. The Capital of West Bengal is Calcutta presently Kolkata.

Food is a very important aspect of the Bengalis. Fish, sweets and other foods are discussed and debated about passionately as Leftist ideologies and Tagore.
The cooks and the ladies spend a lot of time planning out the menus and preparing them.

I am a Bisudhdho Bangali by heart and I am dedicating this pageto the great food culture of my land, West Bengal.

This page is like a site map (not a proper one though).
